1. Alice Arm Suspension Bridge, TransCanada pipeline project. Northern BC, Canada. 2009.
The 280m span suspension Bridge carries liquid gas pipeline, it contains two steel frame towers approx. 35 m height from deck, and the remaining concrete stem is founded on rock and anchored by DSI pre-tensioned bars. The rigidity of the towers is enhanced by set of back stays. The back stays is anchored both top to the fixed saddle and bottom to the splayed rock anchors, and play role in pre-deflect the tip of the tower to compensate further deflections from subsequent loadings. The deck is two longitudinal steel girders braced together using K arrangements. Parabolic lateral wind cables with stabilizing wire ropes surrounding the deck is utilized to prevent any lateral deflections to the pipe during service. The role was:
- Perform complete independent design check for the entire bridge components and elements. The bridge was modeled using MIDAS through several stages, i.e. catenary cable installation, nonlinear cable shape-finding analysis, stays optimum tuning analysis (unknown load factors), vertical loadings analyses and nonlinear lateral loading analysis.
The bridge was cancelled after completing the work due to promoting new alternative route. (2014).
